Bilingual Stipend

Purpose

Seaside School District recognizes the value bilingual employees add to our community. Speakers of other world languages mirror the home language and cultural values of a third of our students. Bilingual staff use their language(s) to support students, families, and coworkers by either interpreting conversations or translating documents during their regular work day.

Eligibility

Bilingual staff who complete the STAMP 4S Test of Language Proficiency at a Level 6 or higher will receive a $1000.00 stipend, paid in June. Bilingual staff that complete the STAMP 4S Test of Language Proficiency at a Level 7 or higher will be eligible for the Translation Rate of $30.00 an hour for interpreting or translating.

STAMP 4S is an online assessment of basic reading, writing, speaking, and listening. Seaside School District will offer a test session at the end of September and the end of October. Bilingual staff that join the district after the test windows are closed will be eligible for the stipend the following school year.

Procedure

To compensate bilingual staff, Seaside School District offers a $1000.00 stipend, paid in June, to staff who score at a Level 6 or higher on the STAMP 4S Test of Language Proficiency.

Staff that complete the STAMP 4S Test of Language Proficiency at a Level 7 or higher will be eligible for the Translation Rate of $30.00 an hour when called upon by an administrator. Interpreting for IEP meetings or parent-teacher conferences will be paid at translation rate, pending proper entry in employee timecards. Additionally, Translation Rate will be paid when the administrator requesting the interpretation/translation specifies those hours will be paid at translation rate.
