Carruth Compliance Consulting is a firm that provides third-party retirement services for many Oregon school districts and education service districts, including Seaside School District. The organization handles 403(b) savings plans. 

On Jan. 13, 2025, we were informed by Carruth that on Dec. 21, 2024, suspicious activity was identified on its systems. An investigation determined that between Dec. 19 and Dec. 26, 2024, sensitive client information was acquired without authorization from its systems.

  • What information was affected?

    The information affected by the Carruth incident (the “Incident”) may include employee names, Social Security number, financial account information, driver’s license numbers, W-2 information, medical billing information (but not medical records) and tax filings.

  • Am I affected?

    This Incident potentially affects anyone who has been employed by Seaside School District between 2007 and today. To be on the safe side, we are assuming that all Seaside School District employees between 2007 and now have been affected by the Incident, and we encourage everyone to follow the recommended steps for protecting themselves

  • What should I do to protect myself?

    Enroll in credit monitoring - Carruth is offering free credit monitoring and identity restoration services through IDX. To enroll in credit monitoring, call 877-720-7895. 

    Monitor your accounts - Regularly review your bank accounts, credit card statements, and other financial accounts for any suspicious activity. If you see anything unusual, report it to your financial institution immediately. 

    Check your credit report - You are entitled to one free credit report annually from each of the three major credit reporting bureaus: Equifax, Experian and TransUnion. Visit the free credit report website or call 877-322-8228 or contact the bureaus directly.  

    Consider placing a fraud alert or freeze on your credit - You have the right to place an initial (1 year) or extended (7 years) fraud alert on your credit file at no cost. The alert requires a business to take additional steps to verify your identity before extending new credit. You can also place a credit freeze on a credit report at no cost, which will prohibit a credit bureau from releasing information in your credit report without your authorization. The freeze helps prevent credit, loans or services from being approved in your name without your consent.
